With Arsenal storming ahead of the chasing pack with a significant five point lead and a game in hand over second place Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table. Many wonder if the Gunners can maintain their tremendous momentum or whether they will crumble and fail to capitalize on a brilliant first half of the season.
On the back of a disappointing 21-22 season, where Arsenal missed out on a top four Champions League spot by a narrow two point margin to their North London rivals, Tottenham. Arsenal have had an incredible resurgence of a season, winning an incredible 16 of their first 19 games of the season and amassing an impressive 50 points. In the history of the Premier League, only one team has failed to win the league with at least 50 points at the halfway mark of the season and Arsenal supporters will be hoping that their team is not added to that unfortunate list. A factor that might have harmed Arsenal's title challenge, was the knee injury their star striker Gabriel Jesus picked up at the World Cup with Brazil, because he is not expected to return until February or March of this year. But, even with their striker out of action for an extended period of time Arsenal still won four out of their past five league games.
Arsenal’s main competitor for the Premier League title, Manchester City, managed by Pep Guardiola, have won an incredible four Premier League titles in the past five seasons. But, this season the club from Manchester have struggled to perform to their usual incredibly high standards. Luckily for Manchester City, they still have to play Arsenal twice this season. Which is extremely significant because the Premier title can still be decided from possible Manchester City victories against Arsenal. The upcoming title deciding matches will be incredibly crucial games that will definitely impact the outcome of the season. One player that will be hoping to get off the mark against Arsenal is Manchester City’s number nine, Erling Haaland. The Norwegian will be hoping to add to his astounding 25 goals in this campaign on the 15th of February and the 26th of April, against the current league leaders.
Leman Manhattan junior and long-time Arsenal supporter Giles Lewis is optimistic that Arsenal will win the Premier League but he is doubtful of injuries to first team players damaging their chances. But, he also believes that Arsenal’s current style of play and passion is indicative of a title winning team.
