The Léman baseball team kicked off their season with a strong performance, winning their first game 10-0 against Avenues. We caught up with some of the players to hear about their standout moments and what’s next for the team as they look to build on this early success.
A Team Effort
From the very first inning, the Bulls took control, both offensively and defensively. Sophomore Jack Haskell led on the mound, with solid defense behind him throughout the game.
On offense, every player greatly contributed towards this win, with multiple RBIs, stolen bases, and overall smart baserunning. Catcher Max Haskell also played an important role in this win. “Being a captain and the only senior on the team, this win means a lot—it’s my last first game of high school ball,” Max said. “From where we started two years ago to now, we’ve really built something. I’m proud of the guys—we’ve worked constantly, and it’s starting to show. I’m grateful to be part of a team that feels like family, and this win makes me optimistic for what’s ahead.”
Strong defense and focus from the start helped the Bulls close out the game with just one error. For players and coaches, the win wasn’t just a strong start—it was proof of how far the team has come, and a sign of what’s possible this season.

Standout Players
Several players had standout performances that helped make this game a special one.
Jack Haskell, a sophomore, led the way with a complete-game shutout as the player of the game. He also delivered at the plate, not just on the mound, with two hits and an RBI. This was the first complete-game shutout in Léman Baseball history. Reflecting on the game, he said, “It feels amazing… I couldn’t have asked for better results.” He added, “From the beginning of the season, I knew what we were capable of… this first game is a great step in the right direction.” Jack also emphasized the importance of focus and trust, saying, “Being locked in is a big aspect… I knew I could deliver good results as long as I trusted myself and my team.”
Lucas Paulino, a junior and one of the team’s captains, scored twice and stole three bases. His energy and smart base running helped carry the team to victory. “As a captain, I kept the team focused and motivated by getting on base and stealing some bags,” Paulino said. “Once I crossed home plate and got everybody hyped and focused, I think we kind of took off from there.” He added that the win “sets the tone for the rest of the season” and gives the team “a lot of energy” moving forward.
Michael Douglas, also a junior captain, contributed to the Bulls’ success in this game. He had a run, an RBI, a stolen base, and three putouts in the field—another example of his consistent performance on the field, bases, and at the plate. “We’re gonna keep on building, and keep getting better and better,” he said. Reflecting on the game, he added, “We got some rallies, especially in the last inning where we blew it open… We had two outs and were able to load the bases, work the count, work some walks, and keep on scoring those runs.”
Logan Senese, a junior, made the most of his appearance in this game, driving in two runs with a single. Afterward, his teammates celebrated his first career hit by dumping water on him, a fun tradition of this team. “This very first win gives me hope for the future,” he said. “It was exciting. I’m happy everyone else is happy.” He added, “For all the people that haven’t gotten their first hit yet, I want to be the person that inspires them.”
A Word from Coach
Head Coach Scott Bolohan praised the team’s performance, calling the 10–0 win a product of hard work, preparation, and teamwork. He pointed to Jack Haskell’s pitching and strong leadership from captains Max, Michael, and Lucas as major factors in the team’s success.
With Avenues being a longtime rival, this win marked a meaningful step forward. Coach Scott emphasized the importance of staying focused and continuing to build on the momentum from this strong start.
What’s Next?
The Bulls’ 10–0 win over Avenues set a strong tone for the season. With contributions from captains and other players like Nick Shange and Riku Kaizuka, the team made a statement.
Looking ahead to their next game against Staten Island Academy on Monday, the team is excited to keep the momentum going and build on this early victory. With this win as a starting point, the Bulls are ready to prove this is just the beginning.
